Today in 1835: Children employed in the silk mills at Paterson, New Jersey, go on strike for an eleven-hour workday and a six-day workweek rather than 12 to 14 hour days.

With the help of adults, they won a compromise settlement of a 69-hour week.

It’s Today’s Action Calendar!

Get an insider’s view of Olbrich’s outdoor gardens during free, informal Guided Garden Strolls on Sundays through September 25. All ages are welcome for this drop-in, casual overview of the Gardens. Free strolls begin at 1:30 and 3pm and start in the lobby near the Garden entrance. No registration is required. Strolls are held rain or shine and will be cancelled only in the event of dangerous lightning. This is at 3330 Atwood Avenue. More info at 608-246-4550, or visit olbrich.org.
