Last month, CNN broke a story about thousands of veterans in Phoenix, Arizona waiting months to see a doctor in Veteran’s Administration hospitals. At least 40 veterans died while waiting for treatment. To make matters worse, VA administrators had lied about the speed with which they treated veterans, even keeping sham appointment lists to hide the delays. It now turns out the practice of falsifying records is widespread, with similar allegations emerging in Fort Collins, Colorado and elsewhere. Recent reports also reveal that VA managers in Pittsburgh hid the 2011 and 2013 deaths of six veterans due to Legionnaire’s disease. The scandal has provoked a firestorm in Washington, with the American Legion and many in Congress calling for the resignation of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki. Joining the Monday Buzz to talk about the troubles at the V.A. and other veteran’s issues is Vets for Peace member Will Williams.
