Last night, the Wisconsin State Senate approved a bill overhauling the state’s mining regulations. The vote was 17-16, with all Democrats opposed along with lone Republican Dale Schultz. Republicans support the bill in the hopes of reviving the mining industry in northern Wisconsin. It’s the cornerstone of Governor Walker’s economic development agenda for the state. But as Molly Stentz reports from the Wisconsin State Capitol, tribes who live downstream are vowing to stop any mine in the Penokee hills.
