Today in 1941: Wisconsin state trooper attacks fail to break the Allis-Chalmers strike in Milwaukee. Union-hating company president Max Babb is fighting against a closed-shop demand.
The demand is from United Auto Workers Local Two-forty-eight, a militant Communist-led union. Today, 76 days into the strike, the troopers fail to get scabs across the picket lines. The plant will stay closed until the government negotiates a compromise.
It’s today’s Action Calendar!
Tomorrow, get help with writing your resume or cover letter, searching and applying for jobs online, setting up an email account, and improving your computer skills. These appointments are provided by Madison Writing Assistance, a service funded by the Evjue Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Anonymous Fund. This is tomorrow from noon to 3pm at the Hawthorne Branch Library, 2707 East Washington Avenue.
The 2014 National High School Mock Trials Championship is coming up May 8th to May 10th. Volunteers are needed at various times and locations for the 3 days of competition. All volunteers will receive a tee-shirt with a special design created for this event. If you are able to volunteer during the Mock Trial Championship, please sign up at nationalmocktrial2014.wisbar.org. For more info, call Kate at 608-250-6191.
