The City of Madison will remember the life of UW Madison student John “Vietnam” Nguyen on Friday, August 30th. Nguyen drowned one year ago while taking an early morning swim in Lake Mendota, near the UW Limnology building. He was a hip-hop artist and scholar with the UW’s First Wave program.
There will be a spoken word performance at 11:30am on Friday in front of the Madison City Building. Madison Mayor Paul Soglin has proclaimed this day to be “John Vietnam Nguyen Day”. There will also be a concert to honor his life at the UW Memorial Union Terrace Friday night at 7pm.
