What’s the latest on the happenings at the Capitol? On Thursday September 19th, our host Allen Ruff was joined by Rebecca Kemble to discussed what is happening in terms of the controversial mining bill, the new University of Wisconsin-Madison Chancellor, and our education system.
Kemble told us about the mining bill and according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, “Gogebic Taconite wants to dig a 41/2-mile-long open pit iron mine in the Penokee Hills just south of Lake Superior. The company insists the mine will create thousands of jobs; opponents counter the mine will pollute the area’s pristine water and wilderness.”
Ruff and Kemble also talked about Chancellor Rebecca Blank and our education system and the politics behind it. Kemble talked about career fields telling schools what they would like to see in their future workers as well as how report cards affect students’ futures. Ruff and Kemble also analyzed the bigger picture and of how the achievement gap connects to our social problems.
