Matt Rothschild, the editor and publisher of the Madison-based Progressive Magazine, was arrested while reporting a story on the arrests of protestors at the Wisconsin State Capitol on Thursday. He joins a growing list of media, elected officials, clergy, veterans, grandmothers, children, and singers arrested for gathering at the Capitol over the lunchhour.
Read his account of the incident. Listen to Matt’s story, as told to reporter Dylan Brogan.
This comes amidst a new study from the First Amendment Center which found that only 1 in 10 Americans could identify the right to assembly as Constitutionally-protected right. Only 1 in 25 could identify the right to petition your government as a basic right guaranteed by law. Freedom of speech was cited as the single most important freedom Americans enjoy.
