The Access Hour

WORT turns its airwaves over to members of the community. The show opens up radio production to people that have typically not been on the air before. The show is completely different from one week to the next. Guests have included community groups, musicians, aspiring DJs, story-tellers, call-in discussions, radio plays, live bands, fans of niche music, and lots of other topics.

A Public Affair


A Public Affair is WORT’s daily hour-long talk program. It aims to engage listeners in a conversation on social, cultural, and political issues of importance. The guests range from local activists and scholars to notable national and international figures.

En Nuestro Patio

Tuesdays @ 7:00 pm

Spanish language news show. Originally a feature on IOBY, En Nuestro Patio has grown into a major news program at WORT. Each week's show includes local, national, international news, and community announcements.

Fiction Jones

Fridays @ 11:00 pm

3rd, 4th, and 5th Fridays of the month A live reading of Gregg Williard's meta-fictional/thriller/mystery novels in serialized form.


Thursdays @ 7:00 pm

2nd and 4th Thursday evenings of each month. HealthWriters focuses on the health of the body politic. This show aims to empower people by giving background and resources to ensure affordable health care.

Her Turn

Sundays @ 11:00 am

News and information by and about women in a magazine format. Includes shorter news stories and in-depth features produced by the Her Turn Women's Collective. The last show of each month is a call-in program.

Hmong Radio

Sundays @ 6:00 am

Hmong Radio features international news, state and local news, and community announcements relevant to the Hmong community. It also includes traditional Hmong songs and other music. Hmong Radio is broadcast in the Hmong language.

Insurgent Radio Kiosk

WEEKDAYS @ 5 AM, 6:30 AM, 9 AM, & 2 PM

The Kiosk is a five minute pre-recorded segment featuring a commentary, this-day-in-history, and a calendar of events for the day. Members of the public can send in calendar listings and/or request a commentary.

In Our Backyard


IOBY presents alternative viewpoints in its news - both in the sources it uses and the stories it covers. IOBY newscasts include local and state news, weather, and regular features. It aims to give underrepresented people a voice.

Labor Radio

Fridays @ 5:30 pm

News by, for, and about working people. Labor Radio's mission includes strengthening local unions, increasing the breadth and depth of media coverage on labor issues, and providing for the information needs of the community.

Mel & Floyd

Fridays @ 1:00 pm

Two wacky guys broadcast a hilarious blend of political commentary, weird news, and stand-up comedy. Mel & Floyd were voted Madison's favorite radio personalities in the Isthmus reader's poll in 2009.

Perpetual Notion Machine

Thursdays @ 7:00 pm

1st, 3rd, and 5th Thursday evenings of each month. A look at contemporary scientific issues and discoveries in a way that is accessible, understandable and entertaining to the non-scientists of the listening community.


Wednesdays @ 7:00 pm

Queery features local lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender news & information that affecting Madison's LGBT community in a news magazine format. The first show of every month is music.

Radio Literature

Radio Literature is a weekly half-hour show devoted to airing poetry, spoken word, fiction, and non-fiction from Wisconsin and the nation. It often features discussion with writers, as well as readings of their work.


Sundays @ 6:00 pm

WORT's Arab-American show, Salamat seeks to create bridges of communication, education, entertainment, and understanding of Arabs in general and Arab-Americans in particular. The show includes cultural segments, music, news from the Arab world, trivia quizzes, recipes, and more.

Third World View

Sundays @ 5:00 pm

The oldest news show at WORT, Third World View covers issues relating to the "Third World" (very broadly-defined) from a critical, anti-imperialist perspective. Third World View newscasts include a half-hour round-up of the week's international news, followed by a 20-30 minute feature, often a speech or in-depth interview.
